Miguel Mancillas
Master, dancer and choreographer born in Hermosillo, in the Mexican State of Sonora.
He was professionally educated in Mexico City, under the talent of teachers from different classic and contemporary techniques such as Xavier Francis, Isabel Hernández, Ángeles Martínez and Guillermo Maldonado. His inclination towards the plastic scope of his art led him to penetrate the realms of stage design, illumination y make up.
He developed his professional career as performer and at the same time he taught dancing and devoted himself to the investigation of Mexican folklore.
His experience increased as he danced with several groups and
companies in Hermosillo, Mexico City and Montreal, Canada.
The
National Dance Festival carried out in San Luis Potosi, has
acknowledged him as outstanding dancer on two different occasions
(1988-1990).
Miguel was granted a scholarship by the National Foundation for
Culture and Arts during the 1993-1994 terms.
As a choreographer, he obtained the XVIII INBA-UAM Award in 1997, he was also distinguished as the best male performer, and received another award to the best wardrobe and the best usage of scenic resources.
He wors as choreographer and wardrobe designer for different theater groups in his hometown, Hermosillo.
Miguel
teaches contemporary dancing as a support to the professional
education of performers with the University of Sonora, and within
Antares’ work program.
On several instances he has taught for the Dance Center of Columbia
College in Chicago, Illinois, wherein aside from being invited as
choreographer, he has been selected by the Institution to be its
representative during the College Show of Dancing Schools nationwide.
Since July 1999, he has been a member of the National System of Creators.
He received the SOMEC-VITARS Award to the most outstanding contemporary presentation in 1999 for En

He is a founder member of Antares.
